Contrast emphasises a simple design
MacMahon Office Fit-out Project (2008) SW1, Russell St, South Brisbane
Influenced by a short construction period and restrictive site access, a simple design solution to cater for strict regulatory requirements while still maintaining a keen sense of aesthetic, was conceived. Combining simple mono-stringer fabrication and dark timber joinery created the contrasting body of the structure, emphasised to great effect by neutral walls and floor finishes.
Quirky rectangular glass adds a little theatre to an otherwise subtle balustrade.
Stringer Construction: Commercial grade painted steel folded tread plate mono-stringers including landing support and column (MS1)
Treads: Pre-finished 42mm Kwila tread/riser assemblies with rebated 50mm Latham 493S “Sparkling Black” non-slip nosing strip
Balustrade: 50mm SHS satin stainless stanchions with clasp patch fittings supporting rectangular 8mm clear toughened glass in-fill balustrade, and Continuous 38.1mm CHS stainless steel hanail. (C4)
